It has been designated as a historic monument by the Greek Ministry of Culture, showcasing various historical periods through its architecture.

Vafes is mentioned in various historical sources, with its creation attributed to the inhabitants of the village of Kourta (later Skoutza), which was destroyed by pirates during the Second Byzantine period. The village is mentioned in documents of the Skordilis family and in Venetian sources as "Vafes" or "Vammenos Potamos."
Kryonerida Cave: This historic cave is where many residents lost their lives to the Ottomans during the revolution of 1821.
